Domestic dispute in San Ignacio leads to murder of mother and 12-year-old daughter

By Hugh O’Brien: A domestic dispute on Sunday night has led to the murder of a mother and teenage daughter in San Ignacio.

According to Police, they received reports of a stabbing incident that occurred at an apartment building located on Zericote Street in the Santiago Juan Layout Area of San Ignacio Town. Upon arrival they saw the bodies of two (2) females in a room in the apartment. The mother appeared to be dead and the female minor had a cut wound to her throat but was showing signs of life.

The female minor, identified as 12-year-old Nitzia Solange Catzim, was rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital for treatment. She was taken into the emergency room but succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Police say they returned to the crime scene and retrieved the motionless body of the mother, 33-year-old Jennifer Mischell Archila. Archila’s body had multiple stab wounds and a large cut to the throat, and was found lying in a pool of blood.

Initial investigations reveal that Archila and her common law husband, Brian Jerry Castillo were involved in a domestic dispute during which Castillo allegedly inflicted the injuries to Archila and her 12-year-old daughter.

After allegedly inflicting the fatal injuries, the suspect Brian Castillo left on a motorcycle along with his seven-year-old son Brian Castillo Jr.

A search was conducted in a bushy lot beside the apartment building where police found a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon.
