By BBN Staff: Police are investigating the circumstances that lead to a decomposed body being found in the Belize River in Spanish Lookout over the weekend.

Officers responded to a call after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 20, to find the body trapped in some bamboo. The person, who is still listed as John Doe, was shirtless and wearing red pants, and Nike shoes.

Director of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said today that investigators are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to determine his cause of death.

“So far investigators have said that he appeared to have a broken neck,” Yearwood said. “Hopefully when we put out the description of this person, maybe relatives will realize that they haven’t heard from him for a while and could assist us in identifying who we have now as John Doe at the morgue.”
