Catholic church hopes Synod theme song will reach all who are interested in getting closer to the church

By Benjamin Flowers: On October 10, the Catholic Church began Synod 2021-2023 a worldwide meeting of the hierarchy of the church. In Belize, the Church has taken a special angle to promote the event with the launch of the Synod theme song “Call to you” released earlier this month.

The song, produced by Guadalupe media, was written by Belizean singing sensation Jackie Castillo and performed by Castillo alongside Sister Mary Rachel Craig of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Benque Viejo.

BBN spoke with Sister Mary who explained that the video was the brainchild of Father Scott Giuliani, pastor of Mercy Parish, who was made the coordinator for Belize’s synod meetings by the Most Reverend Bishop Lawrence Nicasio. The song and accompanying video, Sister Mary explained, captures the diversity of faith in God, presenting two women of different ethnicities, one of them a layperson the other a member of the clergy, both calling out to God.

“The hope is to reach the wider community whether they’re catholic or not, whether they’re Christian or not because music has the ability to touch the heart,” Sister Mary said. “Every human heart has a cry in it to God, whether they know it or not. Maybe this video will help them take the message of prayer to heart.”

The synod will see Catholic parishes all over the world meet at the country level and then the regional level, with the results of those meetings eventually communicated to the Pope via reports. The Pope will then issue an apostolic letter based on the reports he received.
