Teenager arraigned for the murder of 40-year-old Shawn Palacio

By BBN Staff: An 18-year-old Belize City resident was remanded to the Belize Central Prison this week following his arraignment in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court over the shooting death of 40-year-old Shawn Palacio.

Jahstar Gonguez appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser on Monday, answering to a single charge of murder.

Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken and bail could not be granted. Gonguez will remain on remand until his next rial date, January 24, 2022.

On November 1, Shawn Palacio was shot and killed on Mudd Street, only a short distance from his home. Eyewitnesses say the shooter snuck up behind him and fired the single shot that killed him.
