By Hugh O’Brien: Tourism in Belize may soon be getting a much needed boost if meetings between high level Belizean officials and executive members of major airlines in Mexico are to yield fruits.
The high level delegation from Belize included Hon. Anthony Mahler (Minister, Tourism and Diaspora Relations), Hon. Andre Perez (Minister, Blue Economy and Civil Aviation), His Excellency Oscar Arnold (Ambassador to the United Mexican States), Mr. Evan Tillett (Director of Tourism, Belize Tourism Board), Mr. Anthony Hunt (Chairman, Aviation Development Committee-ADC) and Mr. Nicolas Gurwicz (Airlines Development Consultant).
According to a statement from the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), Belize tourism officials “met with executive members of Aeromar, Volaris, and Viva Aerobus airlines in Mexico City today, November 23, to discuss airlift to Belize from Mexico”. If these meetings yield tangible results, it will create new routes for Mexican visitors and by extension Europeans as well, claims the BTB.
Cancun, Isla Mujeres and the Mexican Riviera Maya which includes popular cities such Tulum and Playa del Carmen are major tourism destinations in Mexico. It is the hope of officials that Belize can benefit from some of this tourism traffic if new airline links are established between Mexico and Belize.
