By Aaron Humes: It was a key plank in the Manifesto known as #planbelize – and now Government says it is coming, though more slowly than they might have liked and too slow for most.
We are speaking of the increase in the minimum wage to $5 from $3.30.
Instead of all at once, Cabinet has approved the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government to formulate a plan for “gradual implementation of Government’s commitment to reach a five-dollar minimum wage.”
Also, the Ministry will review the Labour Act including provisions made last year in the wake of the pandemic.
