By BBN Staff: Twenty-year-old Lord’s Bank resident Joshua Martells is on remand at the Belize Central Prison this week, pending bail, after he changed his plea from guilty to not guilty at the last minute on a charge of aggravated assault and use of deadly means of harm.
Martells showed up to court unrepresented for his sentencing hearing, charged with the shooting of Christian Ramos, which was downgraded from attempted murder to use of deadly means of harm; and for an aggravated assault on Shane Bahadur.
The court accepted his plea change and set his next court date for February 8, 2022 where Martells will be provided with disclosure on his case and a trial date will be set.
The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of $5,000 plus one surety of the same with conditions but Martells was unable to post bail and remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison until he can do so.
