By Aaron Humes: It’s getting worse, says the Opposition United Democratic Party.
Since its press conference last week in which it called for the resignation of Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa and CEO Kevin Arthurs, there have been seven more murders.
The most recent is businessman Anil Asnaney, gunned down last night upon leaving Sumathi Indian restaurant in Belize City along with his wife, Manisha Asnaney, who was injured.
Before him were teenager Camron Hernandez of Mahogany Heights in the Belize District; Miguel Zaiden of Belize City; Jennifer Archila and her twelve-year-old daughter Nitzia Catzim of San Ignacio; and Lucas Hoare of Corozal.
And despite the Minister’s “defiance and disdain,” the bodies keep piling up and the country’s confidence in the politicians keeps falling, the Opposition maintains.
It concludes, “This situation is simply unacceptable, and the UDP calls on Belizeans to express and demonstrate their outrage in the most emphatic manner against the wanton violence, and their dissatisfaction with the government’s complete disregard for the safety of our citizens and communities.”
What form that demonstration may take was not discussed.
