By BBN Staff: This week the Port of Belize Limited made a donation of $4,000 to the Aspire for Greatness Foundation (AGF), a community organization led by popular media personality Orson Picart, to assist with the ongoing Christmas Toy and Tablet Drive.
Hertha Gentle, Human Resource Manager at the PBL explained that the port had supported the AGF on its backpack drive held earlier this year and found this latest initiative also worthwhile to support.
“When we saw that he was doing something that again was targeting students on the south side of Belize City, the Port of Belize thought that it was something we should jump on and participate in. After all, we are located on the south side of Belize in the Port Loyola area, and we thought it was only right to come out and just give the support.”
Following a brief handing over ceremony, Picart explained that the funds will be sent to a partner organization, True Belizean, in the United States headed by Faron Smith.
“The initiative is trying to get 200 tablets to gift high schoolers, particularly on the south side of Belize City, in the week of December 20 so that they can use these devices for school,” Picart said.
A total of nine high schools have been identified for their students to receive tablets, while the organization continues to acquire toys and sporting equipment for the other portion of the initiative. Picart stressed that this is the largest donation given to the foundation, to date, and that the AFG is humbled by the generosity of the PBL.
Picart said that the foundation is still seeking other organizations, individuals, and Belizeans in the diaspora, to partner with so that the initiative can be as impactful as possible. He also stressed that transparency is a key pillar of the foundation and that everything the organization does is communicated to donors so they can see the results of their efforts.
