By Aaron Humes: A United Democratic Party official has confirmed that the family of former Prime Minister of Belize Sir Manuel Esquivel has requested the donation of blood on his behalf.
We were unable to locate an account in the name of either of his daughters, Laura and Ruth, but we reproduce the request from one of them, not identified, below:
“Good morning, neighbors. My dad needs to get surgery and will need blood donations. Because I am too scrawny and apparently it’s not a thing to donate just a little bit at a time, I would like to ask any of you that can donate to please do so in the name Manuel Esquivel and send me a picture of the receipt. Thanks.”
The request does not specify what type of blood (A, B, AB, and O) is being asked for, not what type of condition the former P.M., 81, has that requires it, presumably to maintain family privacy.
Sir Manuel and his wife Lady Kathy Esquivel released his biography earlier this year. The former teacher was a Senator, then a member of the House of Representatives as Prime Minister between 1984 and 1989 and 1993 to 1998, with a term as Leader of the Opposition between, before retiring from politics following the reverse in the 1998 general elections.
We wish Sir Manuel all the best in his health concerns and await further developments.
