Government to address staffing of Supreme Court and changes to Judiciary

Posted: Monday, November 29, 2021. 7:36 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Government of Belize says it is now in a better position regarding plans to staff the Judiciary and likely confirm Acting Chief Justice Michelle Arana in the role full-time.

Prime Minister John Briceño said Government had accepted an offer from the Commonwealth for four temporary judges serving a year each to address the backlog in cases.

He added that there will be “fundamental changes” to the structure and operations of both the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, to be announced shortly by Attorney General Magali Marin Young.
