Man steals his mother’s car, ends up remanded to prison

By BBN Staff: A 51-year-old Ladyville man is on remand at the Belize Central Prison, after being charged with stealing his mother’s car.

Al Andrew Smith, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday where he was read a single charge of taking a conveyance without authority, in respect to his mother’s Isuzu Rodeo.

Smooth pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same. However, Smith was unable to post bail and was remanded to jail until January 27, 2022.

Smith’s mother told police that on the night of Saturday, November 27, just before midnight, she heard her vehicle startup. she looked out her window to find Smith driving off in her vehicle. She explained that he had a spare key but did not have her permission to take the vehicle at that time.
