By Aaron Humes: December starts with positive news on the COVID-19 front.

For the second straight day according to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, there have been fewer than 100 new COVID-19 cases – 86 to be precise.

The number of active COVID-19 cases sits at 1,043, its lowest level since August. 309 samples are under investigation.

The number of active hospitalizations and persons in intensive care is also down to pre-September 1 levels.

More importantly, no new deaths have been recorded in connection with the virus, keeping the national total at 578 as we brace for the Omicron variant to possibly make its way here.

Belize has had 30,517 confirmed covid-19 cases since the pandemic began last March, of which 94.6 percent or 28,860 have recovered.
