By BBN Staff: When 33-year-old John Lorencio Martinez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another, he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.
Police conducted a routine stop of a passenger bus back in February 2020 and found 550 grams of marijuana and an unlicensed firearm in a bag under Martinez’s seat. When asked, he claimed the bag.
For his guilty plea, Martinez was fined $4,500 plus a $5.00 cost of court fine in default 1-year imprisonment but Martinez asked for his warrant to be sent up for him to serve the fine in prison time.
His court case with respect to the firearm will be held today.
