By Aaron Humes: Cabinet has approved the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation to employ eight new persons to begin training as air traffic controllers at the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA).

The leading air hub in Belize is handling returning and new international flights, the latter including Alaska Airlines and soon, Frontier Airlines, and the former including Delta, American, United, and COPA and domestic carriers Tropic Air and Maya Island Air.

Cabinet says the extra hiring is necessary with the increase of flights into Belize and the start of the 2021 tourism season, during which record high arrivals are anticipated at the Philip Goldson International Airport.

Previously, it had approved additional overtime and the hiring of additional immigration officers to work at PGIA.
