Laws of Belize revised, to be published electronically

Posted: Sunday, December 5, 2021. 4:48 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Government has introduced an amendment to the Law Revision Act to allow for the electronic publication of the Revised Edition of the Laws of Belize, 2020.

The most recent editions of the Laws, revised in 2011 and 2001, were published in hard copy, i.e. book form, by the Law Revision Commission.

In introducing the amendment, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, Francis Fonseca made note that Section 6 the Minister may determine how the laws are published, and does already allow for electronic publication on the Internet and by CD-ROM, now outdated, but under Section 11 there must be a certain amount of hard copies published.

According to the Attorney General’s Ministry they have still volumes of hard copies of the Revised Edition, 2011, that were not purchased as intended by the public; additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has largely driven printed work digital and online, due in part to restrictions on social distancing. The Act will now ensure that the Laws are primarily published electronically in order to save money and make the Laws more easily available.
