By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a year of mostly international races, Belize’s most recognized women’s cyclist Kaya Cattouse has been signed by LA Sweat.
“Joining us in 2022 is the boss of all bosses, an athlete in every way @rasxkal (Kaya Cattouse),” wrote LA Sweat on Instagram.
“After watching her crush at multiple events in 2021 and then getting to know her off the bike we knew right away that Kaya was the perfect addition to the squad. Hailing from Belize and not only being a phenomenal athlete but also a city council member working to push and provide sport as an avenue for kids in Belize her heart is pure as gold.”
LA Sweat is an all-women’s cycling team originally based in Los Angeles, but which has now expanded its horizons.
“Let’s face it, bike racing is a male-dominated, testosterone-soaked sport that caters to those with the biggest ego and the most wins,” says LA Sweat on its website.
“And LA Sweat is here to change that. We believe it only takes a few women to influence a peloton, and that cycling is a place for EVERYONE. We’re on a mission to empower other women to cut the crap and be unafraid to just get out there and ride. In a culture of power profiles, recovery tights, and carbon bottle cage bolts, it’s nice to be reminded there are still women out there who just wanna go fast and have fun. Because bikes are fun. Riding is fun. Racing is fun. Oh, and winning races every now and then ain’t too shabby either.”
Looks like a team cut specifically for Kaya, except for the part of “winning races every now and then”. She means to win every single race she competes in.
LA Sweat says they’ve raced in almost 50% of the states in the United States as well as British Columbia, Spain, Australia, and Italy.
LA Sweat claims over 50,000 personal social media followers.
