BREAKING: Curfew now begins at 12 midnight on weekends and 11 pm on weekdays

Posted: Monday, December 6, 2021. 3:55 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: We have seen what appears to be the consolidated Statutory Instrument of public health regulations for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

One of those regulations is the nighttime curfew which has been in existence for most of the pandemic period.

As of Thursday, the curfew hours start at 11 p.m. and end at 4 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday and at midnight to 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

We are currently trying to verify the information with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, however Cabinet has promised that new regulations would be implemented for the forthcoming holiday season.

During Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat was put on the spot by Mesopotamia area representative Moses “Shyne” Barrow about continuing the curfew.

Chebat insisted that with deaths still occurring and a need to guard against the potential arrival of the Omicron variant, the curfew would stay in place.

Belize has over 30 thousand infections and 579 deaths from COVID-19 since last March.

We’ll have more details of the S.I. when it is fully disseminated.
