BTB congratulates Ek’ Balam Belize on their third World Pok Ta Pok Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) congratulated Ek’ Balam Belize on their third World Pok Ta Pok Championship won on Friday, December 3, in Merida, Mexico.

The team previously won the Maya ballgame championship in 2017 and 2019.

“The Belize Tourism Board is proud to have sponsored the team. Congratulations on their well-deserved success,” said BTB on social media.

Before the team travelled, BTB presented a $1,500 check to the Pok ta pok World Champions Ek’ Balam Belize. BTB said at the time that the funds were to help meet travel expenses for the team to attend the 4th Pok ta pok World Championship to be held in Merida, Yucatan from December 1 – 4, 2021.

Ek’ Balam Belize won the Maya ballgame world championship in 2017 and 2019.

Ek’ Balam Belize went undefeated in eight games against teams from Mexico, Guatemala, and Panama, to retain the championship.
