CEOs not gone from the service; Doctors switch posts at Ministry of Health and Wellness

By Aaron Humes: A number of senior posts below Ministerial rank have seen changes in recent days, some of which are in the Health Ministry.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness welcomes a new Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lesbia Guerra, who replaces Dr Deysi Mendez.

But contrary to any suggestion that the latter is on her way out entirely, Minister for the Public Service Henry Charles Usher told reporters that it was planned for her to move on to heading National Health Insurance (NHI) as that scheme is fully rolled out.

The ex-CEO, said Usher, is more qualified to head the NHI program, while Dr Guerra has previously worked with the Ministry below CEO level and was assigned to the Ministry of Natural Resources to get a feel for the responsibility of that portfolio.

Minister Michel Chebat concurred, telling Channel 7 News that Dr Guerra’s addition was “incredible” for his Ministry and would “get things going.”

The Minister made sure to thank his ex-CEO, brushing off suggestions from no less than Prime Minister John Briceño that they did not quite get along.
