By Aaron Humes: Minister for Health and Wellness Michel Chebat told reporters on Monday that expiration concerns for Belize’s vaccine supply may prompt us to pay early generosity forward.
Belize has more than 300 thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccines and slightly less than half of the population has been vaccinated even accounting for second shots and booster shots.
Minister Chebat says the country is now looking to donate some to countries that are in need before that expiration date comes: “I know that we have some Astra that may be expiring soon so we’re trying to see if we can possibly donate or see if we can get them in arms as well, yes.”
He continued: “…we are reaching out, we are reaching out to see who may want them, who may need them. We currently have 300,000 vaccinations in the country so we have enough for the entire Belizean population and because we know we have a short life with some of the vaccines we want to be able to give them to our neighbors if possible.”
