By BBN Staff: A young mother grieving the death of her child was charged this week after she attacked a woman over making a social media post about her dead baby.
Twenty-one-year-old Kenya Shenique Pou appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with a single count of harm upon Genie Ebanks.
Pou pleaded guilty, explaining to the court that, following the death of her child, Ebanks made a post on Facebook saying “Rest Papa.”
Pou said she confronted Ebanks and requested that she take the post down, but Ebanks refused. That’s when she threw rum in Ebanks’ face.
Ebanks, who complained of pain in one of her eyes, went for medical attention and her injuries were classified as ‘harm’.
The Magistrate told Pou that she understood her grief, but that Pou should not have taken the law into her own hands.
Pou was placed on a $300 peace bond. She needs to ensure that she keeps out of trouble for the next three months or she will forfeit the bond and spend 12 weeks in prison.
In court, Pou expressed an interest in pressing charges against Ebanks.
