Senior Immigration officer’s transfer not interfered with, says CEO

By Aaron Humes: We have seen a letter of approval for a senior Immigration Officer’s transfer to work in Belmopan, one Edgar Cano, which transfer was allegedly nullified by the Director of Immigration, Debra Baptist-Estrada.

But as it turns out, unforeseen circumstances according to CEO of the Ministry Gilroy Middleton, caused the transfer to be delayed, not interfered with.

Middleton said that Cano was moved to Belize City in preparation but was called on to hold over for a sick colleague. He then proceeded on vacation but is still scheduled to work in Belmopan when he returns.

Middleton further noted that the Department is handling transfers constantly including to the Philip Goldson International Airport where three officers have been transferred. These are dealt with on a request basis.

Edgar Cano is the son of Eulogio Cano who operated as a political henchman for Rene Montero, former Minister of Agriculture, then Works, for much of the UDP’s 12 years in office.
