COVID-19 vaccinations still not at 210,000

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize is struggling to jump 210,000 vaccinated persons. According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) COVID-19 Vaccination Report for Tuesday, December 7, 2021, the total number of persons who have received at least one COVID-19 jab is at 209,759 persons. Of that total, 196,475 have received two doses.

By the next report, Belize will surely surpass the 210,000 mark.

In total, 366 persons ages 18 and older were vaccinated since the previous report.

A total of 29,205 persons between 12 – 17 years of age had been vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines. Twenty-five were vaccinated in this category since the previous report.

The MOHW is vaccinating with AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccines.

The MOHW said vaccinations are now available for everyone; 12 years and older. Persons who have been vaccinated for at least 8 weeks are asked to visit any Ministry of Health and Wellness’ health facility to get their second dose of the vaccine.

“We also advise that even after getting vaccinated, persons are to continue wearing a face mask properly in public, maintain consistent physical distancing, avoid social gatherings, and wash and sanitize hands often,” said the MOHW. “Please be safe and stay at home unless conducting essential business.”
