Gunmen on jet skis open fire at Cancun beach

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Five gunmen who arrived in jet skis had tourists in Cancun running for their lives as they started shooting in the air on Tuesday around midday.

The men were dressed in military gear, Mexico newspaper Milenio reported.

Mexican authorities deployed heavy security to the beach area around midday. No one was detained nor were any injuries reported.

Quintana Roo Attorney General Oscar Montes de Oca said five men reached at least 100 meters from the beach and from their jet skis started shooting. They then abandoned the skis and fled the area.

Montes de Oca said they have been reviewing video footage from surveillance cameras in the area, and though they have strong leads, so far cannot say who the men were nor what was their motive.

A month ago on November 5, gunmen executed a pair of drug dealers on a beach at Puerto Morelos, south of Cancun.
