By Benjamin Flowers: This week Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation is representing Belize at the 13th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN2021) in Bogotá, Colombia.
Minister Andre Perez is leading the delegation to the event, which kicked off on December 6 and will run to December 10. The event is being held under the theme “Harmonization and Liberalization.” The Ministry explained that the event brings together delegations from around the world in a business-to-business (B2B) atmosphere to negotiate bilateral and multilateral air services agreements that will promote growth in the industry and economic realities of states.
“These agreements serve to establish the framework to foster growth in air travel to Belize. Airlines interested in having Belize as a destination in the future, therefore, have the opportunity to gain knowledge about the rules and policies that they will be subject to,” the Ministry said.
The Belize delegation will be negotiating and signing memoranda of understanding with 13 countries, namely, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Kenya, Latvia, Oman, Qatar, Rwanda, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Perez is being accompanied by Kennedy Carrillo, CEO in the ministry, and Nigel Carter, Director of Civil Aviation.
