Police burn over 1,200 pounds of cocaine recovered from Hidden Valley

By BBN Staff: Today, the Belize Police Department destroyed over 25.5 bales of cocaine recovered from a drug plane that landed in Belize on Tuesday, November 30.

The operation was carried out at an undisclosed location, where officers set fire to 1277.23 pounds (579.34 kilos) of cocaine. The operation took place between 8:15 and 9:02 a.m. with a magistrate, Justice of the Peace, forensic personnel, Sr. Police officers, and personnel from the media among other parties were there to witness the destruction.

The drugs were recovered from the Hidden Valley area of the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve, Cayo District, days after the burnt remains of the plane were found.

Police have since arrested the pilot of the aircraft and seven other men, in connection with the incident. They have all been charged with conspiracy to land a plane without the permission of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and importation of controlled drugs into the country.
