Police to step up presence on highways, byways in forthcoming Christmas season

Posted: Thursday, December 9, 2021. 9:12 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Expect to see more police officers around the main streets and highways starting this week.

The Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries informed Cabinet that the Belize Police Department will be stepping up presence in two key areas.

Through its traffic police and highway patrol, in an effort to address the increasing number of road traffic accidents, police will be increasing their presence on the highways including increased checkpoints.

In addition, police will step up their presence at shopping centers and major stores countrywide during the Christmas shopping season.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams has said that officers will be handing out leaflets with advice on safeguarding against robbery, burglary, traffic accidents, and gender-based and domestic violence and family situations.
