By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The National Trade Union Congress of Belize said that though the Government of Belize signed on to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) on December 9, 2016, “five years later, Belize has not made any major significant moves to fully implement UNCAC.”
On the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day observed on Thursday, December 9, NTUCB issued a statement in which it accused the UNCAC Steering Committee of being inactive.
“The UNCAC Steering Committee has not yet met for the year 2021. Outstanding is the second cycle review in which Belize will be reviewed on Chapter two (Preventive Measures) and Chapter five (Asset Recovery) of the convention,” said NUTCB.
NTUCB celebrated International Anti-Corruption Day making a call on Belizeans to say No to corruption.
“The NTUCB calls on Belizeans to their part, exercise their right and utilize their role in saying No to corruption,” said NTUCB in a press release.
The International Anti-Corruption Day was observed under the theme “Your right, your role: Say no to corruption”.
