Man charged with theft for the third time sentenced to prison

By BBN Staff: A 45-year-old man was sentenced to eight months in jail today, after picking up his third conviction for theft.

Kirk Pitts appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s court where he immediately pleaded guilty to stealing a bucket containing an extension cord and a garden hose, which had a total value of $393.00 and were the property of Javis Matthews.

His guilty plea came with the explanation that he is being set up by relatives that want to see him go to jail.

The complainant told police that on Wednesday, December 8, he saw Pitts walking away from his yard with the bucket and called out to him. When he did, Pitts ran off with the items.
