Bystanders chopped while attempting to calm drunken, machete-wielding man

By BBN Staff: Police say that a fight between two drinking brothers on Sunday ended with four people at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital being treated for machete wounds.

Reports are that brothers Hilberto Ruiz and his brother Angel Ruiz were drinking and socializing at the home of
Freddy Itza in the Krooman Lagoon Community, Mile 1.5 on the George Price Highway when they got into an argument. One of the brothers pulled the machete to attack the other and those present intervened trying to calm him.

Rolando Itza, Freddy Itza, and Violeta Singh all received chop wounds during the incident. Police say that another victim, Imelda Rodriguez Vida de Quijada, who is Sing’s mother, was additionally attacked while coming home from church and was also transported to the hospital for treatment. All the victims were treated and eventually released.

Police have two people detained in connection with the incident, pending charges.
