By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News is informed that the CEO in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Dr. Kenrick Williams has been made aware of alleged solicitation of bribes by members of the National Environmental Appraisal Committee (NEAC), which he chairs in that capacity.
The NEAC met on Monday and Dr. Williams confirmed to media houses, that a recommendation was made to the Department of the Environment on the addendum to Waterloo Enterprises Environmental Compliance Plan for its cruise port project in Port Loyola. Though he did not confirm it, we are reliably informed that it was voted down.
But Waterloo has alleged to Dr. Williams that “The most alarming and inappropriate obstruction we have received was from several NEAC members, who, at different stages of the NEAC approval process, have directly and indirectly approached us and offered to ‘assist’ in answering of NEAC questions in exchange for financial remunerations.” These were declined, the company says, and so they were apparently punished and fear they will continue to be punished for not playing ball.
We’ll continue to follow this story.
