By Benjamin Flowers: After being placed on a 60-days suspension, Assistant Commissioner of Police Marco Vidal will have an opportunity to defend himself to avoid further disciplinary action.
According to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, Vidal’s suspension stems from neglect of his administrative duties as the head of the Commander Operations Strike Team (COST)
“We believe that as the commander of operations there were certain things that, administratively, he failed to have done in managing the COST,” Williams said.
Williams went on to say that he is preparing to send a file to the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs containing the allegations against Vidal and any evidence gathered during an investigation. The CEO will then write Vidal a “Show Cause” letter asking Vidal to respond to the allegations and give a reason why he should not be disciplined.
Vidal then has the option to either respond on his own or via his attorney, and the CEO will determine if his explanation is satisfactory. In the event Vidal does not convince the Ministry that he should not be further disciplined the matter will go to tribunal and his fate will be decided there.
