Troubled man abandons partner on Turneffe Island

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a missing man who appears to have left his common-law partner on an island in the Turneffe Atoll.

According to police, Guatemalan Irma Judith Flores Lopez and her partner, Alexis Nathaniel Canan of Belize City went to the island as caretakers last week.

But according to Irma Alexis was behaving rather unusually, complaining of hallucinations and that someone wanted to kill him. His condition worsened over the weekend and he ran off on Sunday afternoon, December 12, ignoring her calling after him to return, and has not been seen since. The Coast Guard searched the immediate area but turned up nothing.

Alexis Natanel Cana is of Hispanic descent, approx 5 foot 7 inches tall, slim built, with a beard but no mustache, a tattoo on his neck along with a tattoo of a crown and Irma’s name on his right forearm. He was wearing a light blue t-shirt and black short pants with white trim.
