By Hugh O’Brien: Breaking Belize News has confirmed that a troubled man attempted to rob an elderly man a short while ago inside the ATM of the Belize Bank Corporation Limited (formerly known as Scotiabank) in San Ignacio. The elderly man who was attacked is a retired public officer residing in Esperanza Village in the Cayo District.
The troubled man grabbed the ATM card and some cash from the elderly man but individuals, including a relative of the elderly man, who were near the ATM responded quickly and apprehended the attacker. A video that was shared on social media shows the full drama that unfolded inside the bank’s ATM.
Luckily and thanks to the intervention of good Samaritans, the elderly Esperanza resident was able to retrieve both his ATM card and his money.
The troubled man, who also appears to be a mental patient, has been roaming the streets of San Ignacio for some time now, using foul language and disrespecting people.
