Dead body recovered from sea near cruise ship; foul play not currently suspected

By Aaron Humes: A man’s body has been recovered from the Caribbean Sea, near a cruise ship in the harbor.

Police said the body had been seen in the One Man Channel, eight miles from Belize City.

Police spoke to security officer Salvatore Cucurullo, who reported that at 7:30 am he saw a Hispanic man semi-nude dressed only in a black shirt with writings, “Restore Belize” floating in the sea next to the above-mentioned cruise ship.

He and other crew members managed to retrieve the body and place it inside an emergency boat. He then contacted the Belize Port Authority Personnel and waited for Police assistance.

Physical checks were made on John Doe where no injuries were observed nor foul play suspected. The body of John Doe was transported to Belize National Forensic Science Service morgue awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police investigation continues.
