Minister of Tourism confirms body found in water is not of tourist

By Benjamin Flowers: Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler confirmed this afternoon that the body which was found floating in water in Belize City near a cruise ship was not that of a tourist.

Mahler, speaking with the media said that he had been briefed on the situation by authorities who confirmed that the body is that of a Belizean man of Hispanic descent.

“It was not somebody off of the cruise ship. There was some delay in terms of the disembarkation of the cruise ship passengers but they are on their way now for their tours and stuff like that,” Mahler said.

Thus far the body has not been identified and is currently listed as John Doe.

The body has been handed over to the national forensic science service to conduct a post mortem examination.

Police are investigating.
