49-year-old Belize City man pleads guilty to possession of pipe used for smoking crack cocaine

By BBN Staff: A Belize City man was spared prison time after being found in possession of a crack pipe.

Forty-nine-year-old Solomon Smith appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he immediately pleaded guilty to being in possession of a pipe to smoke crack cocaine.

He pleaded with the court to impose a fine on him instead of a custodial sentence.

The Magistrate accepted his plea and fined him $300 plus $5 cost of court, which he needs to pay by the end of March 2022 or face one month in jail for default.

Police mobile patrol sighted Smith on the night of Friday, December 17 speaking to someone on Plues Street. As the patrol approached, the officers say they saw him drop something in the drain by where he was standing. Upon investigation, they discovered that the item dropped was a crack pipe.
