Belize Tourism Board joins in mourning passing of Myrna Manzanares

By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Tourism Board is the latest organization to join in mourning for the passing of cultural icon Myrna Manzanares.

The BTB took to Facebook today after learning of Manzanares’s death, to acknowledge her work in promoting culture in Belize.

“It is with deep sympathy that the Belize Tourism Board joins the nation in mourning the loss of cultural icon, Mrs. Myrna Manzanares. Myrna Manzanares was an ambassador for the promotion and safeguarding of Kriol Culture and heritage in Belize. Through her efforts with the National Kriol Council and her involvement in many local organizations, she became known at home and abroad for her jovial spirit, passion, dedication, and wealth of cultural knowledge. Among her many roles, she was a cultural activist, traditional storyteller, historian, poet, writer, and a counselor,” the BTB said.

The Board also extended its condolences to Manzanares’s family and friends during their time of bereavement.

Myrna Manzanares, 30 October 1946 – 21 December 2021. May she rest in peace.
