Belize Weather: A cold front for Christmas

A cold front will be crossing the country tonight, according to the National Meteorological Service.

Skies today will be partly cloudy at first, turning cloudy this afternoon and tonight. Showers will be isolated this morning, then increase over the north and inland this afternoon, spreading to most areas this evening and tonight. Showers will decrease in the north after midnight, moving over the sea and extreme south by early Wednesday.

High temperatures are 84 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 87 degrees inland, and 74 degrees in the hills. Temperatures fall tonight to 70 degrees along the coast, 66 degrees inland, and 62 degrees in the hills.

Winds start from the west to northwest at 5 to 15 knots, becoming 10 to 20 knots and gusty. Sea state begins light chop before becoming moderate to rough. A small craft caution goes into effect this afternoon for gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Tides were low as of 5:56 a.m. They will be high shortly after midday, low again at 5 minutes to five, and high at 2 minutes past eleven tonight. The sun sets at 5:23 this evening and rises on Wednesday morning at 6:18.

Conditions will be mainly fair and cool on Wednesday with a chance of light rain over the south Wednesday morning.
