By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Over 760 head of cattle worth approximately $800,000 were exported to Mexico in the past week.
The last shipment of 189 head of cattle was exported today to Mexico.
“One hundred eighty-nine head of cattle with a total weight of 138,908 pounds are on their way to Mexico today after three truckloads were exported from Kakabish, Shipyard, in Orange Walk,” said Belarmino Esquivel, Principal Agriculture Office and Livestock Director at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
Esquivel said this shipment was of bigger animals cleared by the Mexican animal health authority, Senasica.
The previous two shipments to Mexican importer Su Karne in Michoacan, Mexico, comprised of 291 head on Tuesday, December 14, and 281 on Friday, December 17.
In total, 761 head were exported this past week to Mexico, bringing the cumulative total since September 2020 to 2,865 livestock.
Esquivel says that represents approximately $2,600,000 in export earnings for Belize.
