Breaking: Tree falls on SICA office at western border; no one hurt

Posted: Wednesday, December 22, 2021. 3:59 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News has confirmed a mishap at the Western Border this afternoon.

Apparently, a tree fell on top of the headquarters of the Central American Integration System (SICA) office in the so-called Adjacency Zone, though other reports suggest it is the office of the Organization of American States (OAS) which was struck.

We have confirmed that no one was hurt, however, the tree is said to be impeding access into Guatemala.

The work of clearing up debris has begun, however, more tools such as chainsaws, a dump truck, and other equipment are needed to clear the area.

We are told that the tree’s fall was “scary” and brought out staff from both Belize and Guatemala’s agencies to see what had happened.

The National OAS office here was closed for the day and no one answered our calls at the border office, nor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when we called there.

We continue to follow this developing story.
