By Aaron Humes: The latest individual to die from COVID-19 is a Corozal man in his thirties, per the Ministry of Health and Wellness data. He was unfortunately unvaccinated.
This puts the number of deaths for the month at 14, the number for the fourth quarter of 2021 at 178 so far, and the total number since the pandemic began at 592, or 1.88 percent of the population that tested positive for COVID-19.
By age, a majority of those deaths are in their middle to late ages – 40 and above. The age group with the highest numbers of deaths are in their 70s (39), 60s (37), and 40s (31), closely followed by those in their 50s (28) and over 80 (25).
Only one person since October was younger than 19 when they passed, and a total of 18 were younger than 30.
The unvaccinated continue to be the largest share of patient deaths, with just 39 deaths in the quarter among fully vaccinated patients, all older than 30.
