Ministry of Agriculture sends Christmas greetings to farmers

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise sent out Christmas greetings to farmers in a social media post.

“May you all have a Blessed and Safe Christmas and Happy New Year,” said MAFSE.

The Agriculture Ministry led by Minister Jose Abelardo Mai said it was sending best wishes to “our farmers, our FB Followers, Our Staff and To Everyone who in some way have supported us thru this year”.

“To Our Farmers, we thank you for your unconditional dedication to this country,” said the Season Greetings.

Minister Mai and his staff have been visiting farms countrywide throughout the year pushing the agricultural production and supporting the farmers by limiting foreign imports when there is enough local production.

The production of vegetables, in particular potatoes, carrots, onions, and cabbage, has increased considerably. MAFSE is also promoting other products such as hot peppers and honey as well.

The Ministry has also been looking for new markets for Belizean products in Mexico, Central America, and even as far as Taiwan. Cattle are now being exported to Mexico apart from Guatemala, and shrimp is making its way to Taiwan and will soon be imported to Mexico again.

Belize is looking to establish a Partial Scope Agreement with Mexico, similar to the one it has with Guatemala. To that end, Minister Mai visited Mexico several times this year meeting with Mexican Agriculture Secretary Víctor Manuel Villalobos Arámbula and other high officials in that ministry. At this point, Belize has heightened its technical cooperation programs with Mexico.

MAFSE has also been promoting closer cooperation, along with Prime Minister John Briceño, with the Mexican business organization Coparmex.
