By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Americas appear ready for FIFA’s proposal of celebrating the World Cup every two years.
According to Spanish sports paper Marca, a number of the biggest countries in the Americas, the United States, Canada, Argentina, and Brazil are all for it.
Around the world it’s mostly the smaller nations that are in agreement with the FIFA proposal.
Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who is now FIFA’s head of Global Football Development, has been promoting the idea in recent months said Marca. FIFA president Gianni Infantino is also pushing the proposal worldwide.
According to Marca, Morning Consult conducted the survey and 61 percent of the voters in the United States are in favour of the idea. Only 15 percent are against it with 24 percent indifferent.
Fifty-six percent of the people consulted in Brazil were in favour. Canada had 53 percent, Argentina 48 percent.
Australia was also polled, and 50 percent supported the move.
