Bars and nightclubs still closed, warns Ministry of Health

Posted: Friday, December 24, 2021. 12:47 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: If you were planning to go party for Christmas and New Year, put those plans on hold.

The Ministry of Health played party pooper this morning by quoting section 16 of the COVID-19 public health regulations, Statutory Instrument No. 151, which states inter alia that discotheques, bars, rum shops, and night clubs are and shall be closed.”

The Police and business owners will ensure enforcement of this regulation during the forthcoming holiday weekend and beyond.

The Ministry asks the public to stay vigilant and continue to follow all public health regulations as closely as possible to prevent another outbreak of COVID-19.

Separately, Police Commissioner Chester Williams cited an example of such an event at the Aguada Hotel in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District to be held tonight and featuring prominent artists. He has explicitly warned against attending such events as they are against regulations.
