New cases of COVID-19 shoot up in Belize City

By Aaron Humes: Belize City saw a sharp rise in new COVID-19 cases overnight, reporting 26 of today’s tally of 59.

The mainland Belize District on a whole saw 37 new cases, including three in Caye Caulker and two in Ladyville, as well as one in Willows Bank, while San Pedro Town added five new cases.

There were seven new cases in Orange Walk Town, four in Corozal Town, and one in San Andres, Corozal District for a total of 12 new cases up north.

Out west there were six new cases: two in Roaring Creek, two in Belmopan and Las Flores, and one each in the Twin Towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

Down south, Dangriga reported three new cases and Placencia one, but there were none in the Toledo District.

At the close of the year, the mainland Belize District has recorded 9,515 total cases since the start of the pandemic; Cayo District, 6,373; Orange Walk, 4,406; Stann Creek, 4,276; Corozal, 2,702; Toledo, 2,549; and San Pedro, 1,682.
