By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2021 United Nations Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is now open for applications, says a press release from the United Nations.

“The YPP is a UN recruitment initiative for talented, qualified professionals to start a career as an international civil servant with the United Nations Secretariat,” said the statement.

The recruitment flyer says the YPP is an entrance examination to start a career with the United Nations Secretariat.

“Every year, countries that are un- or under-represented in the UN are invited to take part in the examination process,” says the flyer. Belize is a participating country.

Other eligibility criteria include holding at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 3-year degree in a relevant recruitment area, being 32 years or younger, and being fluent in English or French.

The deadline for applications is February 13, 2022.

Applicants are to register and apply online through Inspira.

The press release says the United Nations does not charge for any stage of the YPP process and warns applicants to “beware of for-profit companies that sell services related to the YPP. These companies are neither supported nor endorsed by the UN.”
