Murdered inside his home – Derron Hernandez is City’s latest shooting victim

By Hugh O’Brien: Earlier Breaking Belize News (BBN) reported that a 23-year-old labourer was murdered in the old Capital.

The victim has been identified as Derron Hernandez, a Call Center attendant and a resident of Raccoon Street Extension in Belize City.

According to Police, they received information around 6:30 pm that someone was shot and rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment. However, by the time police arrived at the KHMH, Derron Hernandez, who had received a gunshot wound to the body, had succumbed to his injuries.

Initial investigation reveals that on Monday 27th December, 2021, at 6:20pm whilst Derron Hernandez was along with his brother inside their house at #167 Raccoon Street Extension, Belize City, they heard the front gate being opened. Hernandez then walked to the front door to see who it was and that’s when he was approached by an assailant who was standing outside the door. The assailant fired a single shot towards Derron Hernandez causing the fatal injuries.

The crime scene was visited and processed by Scenes of Crime Technician and one (1) expended shell was retrieved.
