By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As part of its recognition of frontline heroes, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) awarded a staycation package to Nurse Casilda Bowman, Manager of the Covid and Patient Under Investigation Unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in the Central Health Region.

“At the heart of the pandemic is Nurse Casilda Bowman who plays an important role as the Manager of the Covid and Patient Under Investigation Unit,” said the BTB.

“As the manager of the unit, it is important that I stay on steady preparedness to make sure that every patient that comes to our unit has a bed available so that care can be delivered,” said Nurse Bowman. “As the national referral hospital, it is important that we plan diligently so that we are always ahead of the game.”

“Right now, you can say that our numbers are down, but we are still on a steady pace of trying to figure out what we can do in the case of a surge,” Nurse Bowman said.

“Nurse Bowman believes that providing holistic care is a top priority,” said the BTB.

“With over 11 years of nursing experience, she has worked in the Neonatal Intensive Unit, managed the Emergency department, and provided training for nurses in a variety of areas. These experiences have adequately prepared her for the current role where she dedicates all of her time, energy and compassion to patients in the Covid-19 unit.”

Nurse Bowman was awarded a staycation package for two. The package includes a two-night stay courtesy of Naia Resort and Spa in Placencia. The stay includes breakfast and beach front dinner and a couples massage. Nurse Bowan also received round-trip tickets courtesy Tropic Air Belize, and $2,500 compliments of the Belize Tourism Board.

“Accepting this award from the BTB is truly a great feeling because it really does demonstrate and show that our hard work pays off,” Nurse Bowman said.

“I do a lot of hours, but I do have staff that work longer than I do and for me, I think, it’s one way of acknowledging how hard the healthcare system is working on the fight. So, I want to thank the BTB and their partners for actually having this initiative to honour frontline workers on a monthly basis. It truly inspires all healthcare workers to go above and beyond what they are called to do. Always remember, the KHMH family will be here for you,” she concluded.
